Abstract
In October 2023, a gray bat (Myotis grisescens) was discovered on the outside of a building in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska. This represents the first record of a gray bat in the state, with the closest known occurrence nearly 400 km away in central Missouri. Gray bats are known to migrate relatively long distances (>700 km), but the atypical roost location and lack of nearby records suggest that this bat either represented a wandering individual or a human-assisted movement. However, without knowledge of the mechanism of movement to eastern Nebraska, future bat surveys should consider the potential presence of this endangered species in the region.
En octubre de 2023, se encontró un murciélago gris (Myotis grisescens) en el exterior de un edificio en Omaha, condado de Douglas, Nebraska. Este hallazgo representa el primer registro de un murciélago gris en el estado, siendo la ocurrencia conocida más cercana a casi 400 km al suroeste, en el centro de Misuri. Se sabe que los murciélagos grises migran distancias relativamente largas (>700 km), pero la ubicación atípica del refugio y la ausencia de registros cercanos sugieren que este ejemplar podría haber sido un individuo errante o haberse desplazado con asistencia humana.
