As English teachers, many of us chose this field due to our own appreciation and enjoyment of reading. We comfortably identify ourselves as “readers,” since we not only enjoy reading but are likely also good at it. Some of us might have overcome reading difficulties in the past, but now securely have the skills and strategies to navigate challenging texts.
