What is the place of books in a world full of diverse, powerful media? With students’ access to and affinity for movies, cartoons, video games, and social media, what can books offer? Of course, you and I have ample responses to these questions, and yet, I wonder if you ever feel the way that I have felt at times—like I am competing with these other media, like many of my students need convincing that books are still relevant.
