Abstract
At times, it is difficult to motivate students to do their best work. Admittedly, many of our assignments are limited in that we grade them and return them to our students with little happening beyond this interaction. Contrast that with graduate school where you write a paper for a class with the knowledge that the paper could eventually be published. The additional motivation of getting published will drive good students to do their best work.
For our undergraduates, APICS provides a student paper competition. However, this competition may seem an unrealistic goal to many of our students. This paper describes how I use web-based service learning in my courses to motivate my students to do their best work.
