Abstract
A distraught young man from Sweden immigrated to America in 1920, searching for truth and comfort after a horrific accident in his home country. Karl Ivar Sandberg, who went by Ivar, fled his homeland in southern Sweden after he accidently shot and killed his best friend while the two were duck hunting. Ivar was so distressed that his parents worried he might take his own life. And adding to the problem, the father of the boy Ivar shot filed a lawsuit, seeking the harshest sentence possible. The father accused Ivar of murder, even though the court ruled that the death was accidental.
