Abstract
The McCune School of Music and Art was a private institution, owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah. Located at First North and Main Streets, the School offered outstanding courses in music, dance, art, speech and dramatics. From 1917 until 1919 the institution was part of the Latter-day Saints High School music department under the direction of B. Cecil Gates. Following 1919 the organization became the Latter-day Saints School of Music, offering courses above the high school level. During Tracy Y. Cannon's administration from 1925 until 1950 the School issued Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees, which were discontinued in 1942. After 1942 the institution operated as a preparatory fine arts school, serving mostly high school students. Following 1950 N. Lorenzo Mitchell directed the affairs of the organization. From 1952 until 1957 the School was affiliated with the Brigham Young University, offering college classes.
