Biography
Ava von Göttweig was the first known German-language poet and was born around 1060. She was married and had two sons, Hartmann and Heinrich. She became reclusive after her husband’s death. As a widow, she supported her sons’ religious clerical pursuits. Her poetry contained several motifs that remain popular to this day. She died on February 8, 1127.
