Abstract
For many of his admirers, Jussi Bjorling reigns supreme: in the world of classical singing. Like other Jussiphiles, I am continually heartened by stories of critical acclaim and admiration for his art, not only from music critics but also from informed colleagues who performed by his side on the opera stage. This justifies in a sense my own commitment to his greatness that began very early in my life, at 16 years of age. I still remember with great clarity that evening when I heard, with astonishment, the last half of "Che gelida manina'' (the 1952 recording)" that was being broadcast on a classical music program of the day.
