New specimens of Sahniocarpon harrisii Chitaley & Patil were collected from the Deccan Intertrappean beds at Mahgaon Kalan in central India. These specimens form the basis for this reinvestigation of the species and an emended diagnosis. A tuberculated seed coat, a chalazal haustorium, and the bitegmic nature of the testa can be observed in the new specimens. These features were not included in the original description. Although the extant genera of Clusiaceae and Sahniocarpon are not similar in all aspects, they are close enough to tentatively assign Sahniocarpon to this tropical family.
