Abstract/Description

This paper seeks to prove the necessity of rhetorical skill in effective leadership. Analyzing the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi by observing patterns in his character and speech shows that rhetoric was essential in his success. The sources of research for this evaluation are two of the more well known speeches delivered by Gandhi which are “The Quit India Speeches” and his “Statement in the Great Trial of 1922” as well as biographical information. In order to establish the usefulness of rhetoric in leadership, this paper will define rhetoric and highlight ways it applies to qualities and skills associated with good leaders.
