AWE (A Woman’s Experience)

Volume 5 (2018)

Note from Editor-in-Chief

Dear Reader, I hope you enjoy the journal we have put together. I want to thank all those who have contributed. AWE: A Woman’s Experience Volume 5 was made possible thanks to the efforts and investment of many people, including our faculty advisor, Charlotte Stanford, our design editor, Heidi Herrera, the Women’s Studies Department at BYU, many inspired professors who have mentored contributing students, and our intelligent and talented authors, editors, designers and artists. As I contemplate the significance of a journal dedicated to women’s experiences, I cannot help but marvel at the sacrifices these women have made to gain an education, tell their stories, and make a difference. As you read from this journal, I invite you to contemplate both the importance of women’s individual voices as well as the power that comes from women’s voices being raised collectively. This has been well illustrated by the Me Too movement founded by Tarana Burke, which works to create a space for women to tell their stories and receive support from a community of empathetic allies. As we work to effect change in the lives of women globally, I hope we will remember to value their individual stories. By so doing, we empower women to speak their truth. That we may hear them, believe them, and amplify their voices is our collective goal. With this in mind we present to you AWE Volume 5. Best, Rilley Mckenna Editor-in-Chief
