Abstract

Many publications of the Swiss American Historical Society have grown out of the vision, forethought, and commitment of Leo Schelbert to the field of Swiss American Studies. This publication is but another project benefiting from the able and always pleasant mentorship of Leo, one marked by his gentle form of challenge, by his encouragement, by his helpful counsel, and by the generous offer of his time reading numerous drafts.
