Abstract
I wonder how many here this evening are familiar witht he work or even the name of Adolf Meyer. I would expect that he is know to few. Even in the field of psychiatry, towhichhecontributedso much, he has become little more than a name. Young psychiatrists are likely to learn only enought about Meyer to pass their medical boards. What they do read does not necessarily clarify his importance, for his theories seem either obivous or obscure, and far from electriying. Indeed, the recent question of one psychiatrist probably reflects the attitudes of many: "Just whar was so great about Meyer?"
