Abstract

As a Professor of Median and Minor Romance Languages at the University of North Carolina, Professor Maissen occupies a unique position for fostering interest in the Raeto-Romance language of his native Grisons. This center of comparative :ttemtures and linguistics enables him to use Raeto-Romance as a key for the understanding of the whole language group related to it, from Catalan to Rumanian. Despite of its small territory, Raeto-Romance, because of the consciousness with which our compatriots in the Grisons defend this linguistic heritage, plays a crucial role in these studies .
