Abstract
The past year was marked by a steady continuance of activities started earlier. Perhaps the most significant step was the signing of a contract with Peter Lang Publishers in New York, a subsidiary of the well-known publishing house in Bern, for the volume of the Emil Frey Letters. This book is now in print and should be on the market early next year. As in earlier, similar ventures, SAHS members will receive a free copy; Lang will market the book, especially to libraries and people interested in Swiss-American history. The second installment of our PRO HELVETIA publication subsidy will cover a substantial part of the production costs; and since the SAHS will receive royalties on each copy sold (after the initial 375), we will also recover a part of the funds which the society has invested in the project. This volume will begin a loose series or publications under the auspices of the SAHS. and I hope that in this way, our contributions to investigating Swiss-American history and mediating between the two cultures will have an adequate forum.
