Abstract

The paper read by Dr. A. Maissen at the New York meeting of the SAHS dealt with the interesting subject of Captain Henry Wirz . Although one of the best known Swiss participating in the Civil War, he is not listed among the subjects of the book Prominent Americans of Swiss Origin. This probably was no oversight, for he was and is a controversial figure.
