Abstract
Bosshart, Jakob (1862-1924), Swiss novelist, short-story writer, and poet, was born in a lonely farm in Stürzikon near Zurich. He trained at a teachers college and later studied at the universities of Heidelberg, Paris, and Zurich, earning a Ph.D. degree at Zurich. An able educator, Bosshart served as rector of the cantonal gymnasium in Zurich for 17 years. Ill · health forced him to resign, and he subsequently moved to Clavadel, where he worked at his writing and fought a losing battle against tuberculosis.
