Abstract
Starobinski, Jean (1920-), Swiss literary critic, was born and educated in Geneva, where he completed studies in literature and medicine. Since 1958 he has taught at the University of Geneva. Like his masters Marcel Raymond and Georges Poulet, Starobinski interprets the act of literary creation as an existential project of self-discovery and self-realization, embodied in the dominant thematic patterns and motifs of an author's works.
