Abstract
Staiger, Emil (1908-), Swiss literary critic and translator was born in Kreuzlingen, canton Thurgau. For many years he was professor of German literature at the University of Zurich. Staiger gave new impulses to German literary criticism through comprehensive interpretations of individual works and a theoretical consideration of literature in connection with the existential philosophy of Martin Heidegger.
