SLK: “Brother Silver, will you tell us about your adventure when you decided to follow your great, great Uncle George Q. Cannon’s footsteps, over 150 years ago, and climb up through the Olowalu canyon and over the West Maui Mountains down into Wailuku?” BSS: “Gladly. After studying the history of George Q. Cannon, I became obsessed with the desire to retrace his steps over the West Maui Mountains and arrive in Iao Valley and arrive at the home of the Mahi’s. I had asked George or John Mahi to accompany me, I was at this time in my early 30’s, they were in their 60’s and possibly early 70’s and at first George said, Yes, but after about 6 months of trying to get him to go he said, No, I can’t make it, you need to find someone else. I asked another fellow to accompany me and after another 6 months, finally, he turned me down. So I decided to ask Cherry, my wife to go with me.
