The Dopamine Transporter (DAT) & Addiction
- The DAT is responsible for the reuptake of dopamine.
- It is also a major binding target for psychostimulants such as cocaine, which causes an increase of dopamine in the brain.
- Dopamine efflux can ultimately lead to addiction.
