Abstract
For the people of Suriname, the word “Sranan” is more than just a word, it is a symbol of national pride and independence. “Sranan” is the native word for Suriname, a small country on the northeastern coast of South America. Throughout its remarkable history, Suriname has transformed into a nation rich in culture and values. Its unique society bears the scars of Dutch colonialism while absorbing facets of African, Indian, and Indonesian cultures.
