Abstract
The advent of photography brought about a change in the world of art. Many artists felt that they no longer needed to adhere to academic standards in rendering traditional subjects such as the figure, landscape, or still life. They even felt that it was necessary to separate their work from the confining standards of the academy and representation. Art and photography resided in entirely separate and unique worlds. In the last half of the twentieth century, photography and the other art mediums began to merge and compliment each other as forms of expression. Artists have explored techniques for incorporating photographic images and processes into their work. Many of these methods are used with printmaking processes. My area of research involved a type of printmaking called intaglio.
