Abstract

For centuries, languages and cultures were mainly restricted to the countries and regions to which they belonged and in which they were created. Today, however, with our trans-continental flights, international restaurants, and global perspective, foreign languages are becoming a part of our daily life. Such is the case especially at BYU, where a large percentage of the student body has lived for an extended period of time overseas and has thus become fluent in languages and cultures. It is in this context that this study was created to explore how students apply their first foreign language (L2) to learn a second foreign language (L3).
