Abstract
The Sophie Digital Resource and Research Center project was created to recover the works of previously marginalized authors, specifically focusing on female German artists. Run by “Women in German,” the project is designed to facilitate mentored research by students. The Sophie project fills a scholarly need for access to basic materials and information on artists, who because of their gender were excluded from the canon. Marginalized works are not currently widely available for academic consideration, having had limited publication and circulation, and many texts are not even available outside of Europe. The BYU students who work with the Sophie project not only gather and edit the lost texts, but also work to analyze them and bring new insights to understanding the contextual meaning and value of the works.
