Abstract
ABECHE, CHAD—Sudanese funded military groups known as the Janjaweed have been attacking villages in the Darfur region of Sudan since early 2003. The group claims to be looking for insurgents scattered across the region. The Janjaweed have violently attacked villages, strategically killing men to instill fear in the lives of possible rebels. They have burned hundreds of villages and raped tens of thousands of women and young girls. They have also gunned down nearly a hundred thousand people since 2003. Almost two million people have been forced to flee their homes and are now internally displaced within Sudan. Another two-hundred thousand have found refuge in neighboring Chad.
