Abstract

When one thinks back to the architecture of the early 20th Century, names such as Louis Sullivan, Mies Van der Rohe, and Frank Lloyd Wright will be the first to come to mind. Rarely does the name of a female architect come to the thoughts of one who is not familiar with architectural history. Although these names are less familiar to us, they are by no means less important. At a time when there did not seem to be a place for women in architectural history, a few, such as Marion Mahony Griffin, were already making history. Women in modern architecture knew neither limits nor the boundaries others made for them. They saw a place for themselves in architectural design and took it.
