Abstract
TNF-a is a cytokine released by activated macrophages and lymphotoxin alpha (LTA) is a cytokine released by activated lymphocytes. Both proteins act as modulators of the immune response and competitively bind to the same protein receptors TNFR-1 and TNFR-2. The protein sequences themselves are 35% identical and 50% homologous to one another.
