Abstract
As an awardee of the Indo-American Fellowship which is administered by the Fulbright Committee, I conducted a ten-week field research project in India in the winter of 1985. I visited more than thirty libraries and museums located in a dozen major cities throughout the subcontinent. While the primary objective of my project was to survey Chinese studies programs and library collections in Indian universities, I also had an opportunity to meet with educators as well as administrators and to discuss current issues and problems in the library and information science professions.
