Supplementary File 1
Supplementary File 1 is a listing of each of the 1,578 journals included in the Elsevier journal backfile packages purchased by the BYU Library. The following are the row headings and what is in each row.
Journal_Title - The title of the journal
ISSN - International Standard Serial Number, a unique identifier to identify a specific journal
Print_Dates - 
BYU_Library_Print_ Date_Range - 
BYU Library_Print_ Space_ Measurement_inches - Amount of space on the physical shelf in inches
Category - One of three categories assigned by the number of articles per journal in the Elsevier backfile package: small, medium, large
Classification - One of five subject areas: Agricultural and Biological Sciences, Engineering, Health Sciences, Physical and Mathematical Sciences, or Social Sciences
Number_of_Items - The numnber of PDF items associated with each journal. See the tab listing the various publication types
EID - Elsevier ID, a unique identifier used by Elsevier
doi_hyperlink - Hyperlink to each article chosen for scan quality review through its doi
Article_Title - Title of each article chosen for scan quality review
Total_Pages - Number of pages for each article chosen for scan quality review
Illegible_Pages - Number of pages for each article chosen for scan quality review with illegible text. Cell and number highlighted red for easy identification.
Total_Tables - Total number of tables in each article chosen for scan quality review
Illegible_Tables - Number of illegible tables in each article chosen for scan quality review. Cell and number highlighted red for easy identification.
Total_Figures - Total number of figures in each article chosen for scan quality review
Illegible_Figures - Number of illegible figures in each article chosen for scan quality review. Cell and number highlighted red for easy identification.
Title_Change_History - The title change history of each journal in the study


Supplementary File 2
Supplementary File 2 is a metadata listing of each PDF item from the 1,578 journals included in the Elsevier journal backfile packages purchased by the BYU Library. The following are the row headings and what is in each row.
row_number - each row of data is assigned a row number
eid - Elsevier ID, a unique identifier used by Elsevier
end_page - last page number of the article
journal_issn - International Standard Serial Number, a unique identifier to identify a specific journal
online_date - date the article was published online
pii - publisher identifier number
pub_date - print publication date
pub_type - Different types of items produced and scanned such as full length articles, Errata, abstract. See pub_types tab for abbreviation definitions
start_page - first page number of the article
title - title of the article
