Abstract
Bina has been slowly falling apart her entire life, because she has been made to feel that her birth was the death of her mother's hopes. Their horribly dysfunctional relationship comes to a head when Bina is kicked out of her home. Borrowing her mother's dreams of fame and fortune, she arrives at Catherine House, a girl's boarding house in New York City. There, no one seems able to leave, and some of the girls resemble photographs on the stairs from the 1920s. Soon it is up to Bina to untangle the mystery, finding the truth that will allow her to move on with her life.
