Jane Goodall: Chimpanzee Expert & Activist
Abstract
Jane Goodall first went to Africa in 1956; this was the beginning of a lifetime of dedication to saving the amazing chimpanzees she found there. Jane graduated from high school in England in 1952 but did not have money to go to college. When friends invited her to join them in Africa in 1956, she happily went along. In 1957 Jane received an offer to study chimps in Tanzania and began observing chimps using tools. After seventeen years of study, Jane founded the Jane Goodall Institute for Wildlife Research, Education and Conservation in an effort to protect the chimpanzees she grew to love. Today, Jane travels most of the year, speaking, and working to make the world a safer place for primates.
