Abstract
If this boy can walk to the next town to get water, learn to speak a new language in a foreign country, and rise to become the Poet Laureate of the United States, imagine what you can achieve! Juan Felipe Herrera was a son of migrant farmworkers. He loved to read and write from the moment he began going to school. He grew up in farming towns until he had the opportunity to move to a larger city, where he could go to school and learn to speak English. He focused on his studies and mastered the use of the English language. Through hard work, school, and dedication to his craft, Juan Felipe Herrera became one of the most prominent poets of his time.
