Abstract

This story follows a little girl and her Mom out for a walk on an autumn day. They play in the leaves and find a cute kitten. All the while, the little girl says to her Mom “say it”. Her mom says various things about their surroundings, but to the little girl’s dissatisfaction, this was not the answer she was looking for. Finally, the little girl runs into her Mom’s arms urging her to “say it” and her Mom finally says “I love you!” This book teaches two important lessons to parents and children alike. To parents, Say It! exemplifies a child’s need for affection from their primary caregiver, both in word and in action. The little girl is content on the walk, but needs something more. A love that can only be given by words. The second lesson it teaches, this one geared towards children, is that sometimes parents show their love for their children in action rather than words. The time spent with the child is the mother’s way of showing her love to her daughter.
