Abstract
He Has Shot the President! recounts the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth. Booth, a popular and handsome actor who regularly performed at Ford’s Theater, knew that Lincoln planned to be at the theater that night. He didn’t agree with Lincoln’s political decisions so he plotted to kill Lincoln, carrying out his assassination. When Booth shot Lincoln during the show, confused audience members initially thought it was part of the show. This book also recounts the aftermath of Lincoln’s assassination, the attempted assassination of Secretary of State William Seward and President Andrew Johnson, and the eventual capture and killing of Booth.
