Abstract
This discussion on humor in Lazarillo de Tormes begins with a brief exploration of theories of the causes of laughter. Then the author analyzes the source of humor in Lazarillo into categories such as satire, slapstick, irony, incongruity, and word play, among others. Lazarillo's popularity in its day and its appreciation in our day undoubtedly stem from its author's mastery of the various forms of humor.
