Biography

Gary Mokotoff is the first person to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award of the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies. He is the author of a number of books including the award-winning Where Once We Walked (a gazetteer of more than 23,000 towns where Jews lived before the Holocaust), How to Document Victims and Locate Survivors of the Holocaust, and Getting Started in Jewish Genealogy. He is co-owner of Avotaynu, a publishing company that focuses on books of interest to persons tracing their Jewish family history. In 2004, the company received the Body of Work award of the Association of Jewish Libraries. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Genealogical Societies and Association of Professional Genealogists.
