Abstract

Now that the war was finished, I had to look for a job. I decided to go first to New York. I didn't take along the many and large mattresses on which I had rested during four years, nor could the "guards" that used to jump in the grass follow me, and they probably have not escaped their certain death. So I came to New York. It was twelve at night. We could leave the boat only the next morning because all inns were closed. Thus I headed to town in the early morning hours and saw a sign that read "Die 3 Bundesbrtider" [The Three League Brothers] .
