Abstract

Attendance

The Sixth Annual Meeting of the reactivated Swiss American Historical Society, to which the members had been invited by circular letters of October 25 and November 28, took place on December 27, 2969, in the Conference Hall of the Embassy of Switzerland in Washington, D.C. Time and place were chosen because of the coincidence with the Annual Meeting of the American Historical Association of December 28 - 30 in the same town. This facilitated the attendance of our professional historians, but was less practical for those among our members who had to use the holiday season for family gatherings. The Secretary, therefore, got several letters from members who regretted that they were not able to come to Washington at that time. The situation was further impaired by icy weather conditions which caused an interruption of air traffic with New York. This hindered quite a few members from that area to be with us. Nevertheless, we were fourteen people at the Business Meeting starting at 11:00 a.m., over thirty at the luncheon offered by the Secretary and his wife, and forty at the afternoon lecture from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. The whole gathering in the friendly atmosphere of the elegant Embassy Hall was permeated by the good spirits of a group genuinely interested in Swiss American cultural relations.
