Eugene England presented this paper, based on the first chapter of his book of essays, "Why the Church Is As True As the Gospel" (Bookcraft, 1986) at the AMCAP Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah, 3 October 1986. It is an expanded version of an essay first printed in Sunstone.
